FAQs

Do you offer free legal advice?

Yes, for new employee clients, we offer a free 30 minute online consultation meeting to discuss your situation, briefly assess the legal merits of your case, and outline how we can assist you moving forward. Fees apply for meetings longer than 30 minutes and are subject to our availability.

How do I set up a meeting with you?

You can request an appointment for a consultation meeting via our contact page. Please make sure you provide correct contact details and information. We will then email you to request relevant documents including your photo ID and employment agreement (if available), and to set up a time to meet. We may not be able to discuss your matter with you if you do not provide correct details or documentation, as we will need this background to give you tailored advice.

What will it cost to instruct you?

We provide an affordable alternative to traditional law firm pricing. We will explain our fee quote when we meet with you. We offer various fee structures including fixed fees for specific tasks, hourly rates, and conditional fee arrangements including “no win no fee” for eligible employment matters. We believe in transparency and will provide a clear estimate before starting any work, which means no surprise bills.

What if I can’t pay right now?

We may be able to offer you a payment plan or conditional fee, depending on the quota we have available. Ask us about a payment plan when you meet with us for the consultation meeting.

If I’m not getting paid my wages, have been fired from my job, or I’m being bullied at work, what can I do?

If you have been dismissed or are facing unpaid wages or unfair treatment at work, depending on the situation you may have grounds to raise a personal grievance or wage claim under New Zealand employment law. You will need to act quickly, as there is a strict 90-day time limit from the date of the event to raise a personal grievance. We can help you to claim unpaid wages, negotiate a resolution with your employer, or represent you at mediation and the Employment Relations Authority (ERA).

How long will it take me to resolve my employment dispute?

The timeframe varies significantly depending on whether the matter can be resolved through direct negotiation or mediation (usually from a week to a few months), or if it requires a hearing at the Employment Relations Authority (often up to a year or more). We aim to resolve matters as efficiently as possible and work to your instructions.

Where is your office?

We operate a virtual office, meaning we can support you online wherever you are in New Zealand or overseas. We do not have a physical office and instead meet with you online and over the phone. This helps us keep costs down and allows us to continue to provide free consultation meetings to people who need it.

Let us help you through.
